A credit report is an assessment of your ability to pay. Every time you apply for a loan or credit, and sometimes also when you shop online and choose to pay later, banks and other lenders will do a credit check.

A credit assessment is based on the idea that there is low risk of giving credit to those who have previously managed their finances and greater risk of giving credit to those who have previously mismanaged their payments. According to the Credit Information Act, you can be notified by a credit information company if the company has stored information about you and, if so, what information is available.
